LASU EMERGES WINNER OF THE 2025 ACA–PILIWA MOOT COURT COMPETITION

Lagos State University (LASU) has once again demonstrated its rising strength in legal education by emerging overall winner of the 2025 ACA–PILIWA Moot Court Competition, defeating nine other universities from across South-West Nigeria in the regional contest held between 17 and 28 November 2025.

The hybrid competition, organised by Advocates for Community Alternatives (ACA) and the Public Interest Lawyering Initiative for West Africa (PILIWA) in collaboration with the Caleb University College of Law, featured virtual preliminary rounds and in-person semi-final and final stages at Caleb University’s Magodo City Campus, Lagos.

Lagos State University team, comprising of different students like; Coach Azeez Babatunde Adeleke, Oralist Abdulquadri Ajeniya, and Sarah Atere secured the win with outstanding legal reasoning, strong advocacy skills, and a firm grasp of public interest and environmental law.

Other contributors to the preparation of the competition memorials include Lawal Fikayo (Applicant’s Memorial), Ghazal Muhammad Awwal Boluwatife and Rasheed Mariam (Respondent’s Memorial), whose dedication and scholarly input were instrumental to the team’s success.

Reacting to the victory, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, commended the students for bringing honour to the university. She praised their brilliance, discipline, and commitment, describing the achievement as further proof of LASU’s dedication and commitment to academic excellence and the training of globally competitive graduates. She urged the team to keep striving for greater accomplishments as LASU continues to position itself as a leading institution in legal education and advocacy training.
