Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON, has pledged ₦600 million towards the construction of a hostel for female students of Lagos State University (LASU).
Dangote, who was honoured with an Honorary Doctor of Business (Honoris Causa) in Entrepreneurship, Industrial and Human Capital Development by the University, made the pledge during the institution’s combined convocation ceremonies.
The announcement was made on his behalf by his daughter, Hajia Fatima Aliko-Dangote, who represented him at the convocation and the Award of Doctorate Degrees ceremony.
In addition to the hostel pledge, Fatima disclosed that first-class graduates in Engineering and Science-related disciplines from the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions would receive preferential consideration for employment within the Dangote Group.
She noted that the employment opportunity would be available to eligible graduates after the completion of their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
The announcement adds to the highlights of LASU’s 29th and 30th Combined Convocation Ceremonies, which brought together graduands from the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions and celebrated outstanding achievements within the University community.
The ₦600 million pledge is expected to support the development of additional accommodation for female students, while the employment opportunity offers high-performing graduates a potential pathway into the corporate workforce following their university education and national service.
The gestures underscore the importance of partnerships between the private sector and tertiary institutions in supporting student welfare, infrastructure development and graduate employability.
For the graduating first-class students in Science and Engineering, the opportunity also presents a direct link between academic excellence and potential career opportunities within one of Nigeria’s leading business groups.
