The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, officially commissioned the new state-of-art library at Lagos State University main campus, Ojo on Monday, October 21st, 2025.
The landmark event was graced by the Governor, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji Bello, mni, NPOM, and other dignitaries. The students’ union and the students’ populace were also not left out in this historic event.
The commissioning began with an introductory speech by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji Bello, mni, NPOM, who introduced esteemed guests, expressed gratitude for their attendance, while revealing her delight at the historic feat achieved.
She also announced the appointment of Dr. Omowunmi Makinde as the new librarian and custodian of the library.
In his speech, the Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was visibly impressed, described the university library as an astonishing edifice to behold, noting how it would transform so many learners, “this library is the library of the future,” he said.
Additionally, the 36th Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) President, Comrade Adebayo Peter Korede, popularly known as APK described the library as “not just a library, but a possibility.”
He presented the Governor with a framed gift and conferred the title “Baba Aluta of LASU” upon him. He also honoured the Vice-Chancellor, calling her the “Senior Abiamo of Nigeria (SAN).”
Following the speech, the Governor and other dignitaries were given a tour of the library complex.
