“IF YOU HEAR SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING” – LASU VC ADMONISHES 14,893 MATRICULANTS

The Lagos State University (LASU) held its matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, December 1st, 2025. The landmark event, which formally ushered thousands of newly admitted students into the university, took place at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo.

The vibrant ceremony was filled with excitement, colours, and high hopes as the freshers took their matriculation oath, marking the official start of their academic journey. Dressed in academic gowns, the students were joined by proud parents, guardians, university staff, and dignitaries who filled the auditorium.

Addressing the matriculants, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, congratulated the new intakes and urged them to embrace LASU’s core values of excellence, integrity, and service. “The choices you make from today will shape your future. Stay away from vices, avoid cultism, and use your time productively. If you hear something, say something,” she advised.

She further reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing a conducive learning environment and emphasized LASU’s zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence.

Similarly, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai Abatan, encouraged the students to prioritize good conduct and academic excellence, assuring them of the university’s support in both welfare and learning. He stressed the importance of time management and adherence to the university’s rules on maintaining decency throughout their stay on campus. “You must maintain good character and avoid all forms of social vices,” he emphasized.

Additionally, political science lecturer and motivational speaker, Dr. Samson Olusegun Oyetolu, inspired the matriculating students with messages centred on academic focus and purposeful campus living.

He highlighted the vast opportunities available within the university, urging the students to engage in self-discovery and strive for excellence. “Proper preparation prevents poor performance. Be a knowledge thinker and a knowledge seeker,” he advised.

The 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony was filled with happiness, emotions, and fun-fair, as many parents and guardians celebrated the new generation of leaders who had just begun their undergraduate journey.
