LASUSU SJC HOLDS MENTORSHIP SESSION AT THE LAGOS STATE HIGH COURT, IKEJA

The Lagos State University Students’ Union Student Judicial Council (LASUSU SJC) held an intensive judicial training and mentorship session under the guidance of Hon. Justice A.G. Balogun of the Lagos State High Court on April 29, 2025, at Ikeja, Lagos. This is a move to enhance judicial knowledge and integrity among student leaders.

The training session under the leadership of Hon. Justice Haddy Adekunle Makanjuola offered student judges an immersive look into the real-world practice of law, beginning with live courtroom observations that showcased judicial decorum, procedural law, and professional conduct.

A key feature of the day was a personal mentorship session with Justice Balogun, an esteemed alumnus who once served as president of the LASUSU Court of Appeal in the 2007/2008 academic session.

Drawing from his rich experience, he shared inspiring reflections on his journey from student judicial leadership to the state bench. His insights touched on the responsibilities of judicial officers, the ethical standards expected of them, and the importance of impartiality.

The interactive session provided council members the chance to engage deeply with Justice Balogun on issues such as judicial independence, justice administration within campus settings, and personal growth in legal service. His Lordship encouraged the SJC to remain steadfast in fairness and integrity, describing the judiciary as “an institution of brilliance, decorum, and character.”

In appreciation of his mentorship and commitment to nurturing future legal minds, the Council presented Justice Balogun with an award of recognition.

The training session marked a crucial moment in the development of the LASUSU SJC, reinforcing its members’ dedication to upholding justice with excellence and ethical strength on campus.
