THE EXECUTIVES OF THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW SOCIETY LED BY MAKANJUOLA HADDY HOSTS FIRST-EVER PHYSICAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW CONFERENCE

The Intellectual Property Law Society of Lagos State University (LASU) recently held its first-ever physical Intellectual Property Law Conference—a groundbreaking event that brought together students, legal professionals, and industry experts to explore the dynamic intersection of law and creativity.

The conference was organized under the leadership of Haddy Makanjuola, President of the Intellectual Property Law Society, who also serves as the 35th President of the LASUSU Court of Appeal.

Themed “Rhythm and Rights: Navigating the Complexities of IP Law in the Music Sector, from Creation to Commercialization,” the event took place on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, and aimed to broaden understanding of how intellectual property rights influence and protect creativity within music, art, and entertainment.

In his welcome address, the president remarked: “This is more than just a conference—it is the birth of a tradition. A tradition of raising awareness, building capacity, and driving conversations around Intellectual Property Law.”

The conference featured keynote sessions from some of the most respected voices in Nigeria’s IP law space: Mrs. Adeola Olumeyan delivered a session that broke down complex IP concepts with clarity and energy, helping participants gain a deeper appreciation of the role IP plays in the creative industry.

Mrs. Kofoworola Eze provided in-depth legal insights and real-world examples in her session titled “Copyright and Ownership in Music Creation,” sparking critical conversations among participants.

Optimist Ibukun, Esq. shared practical perspectives on “Licensing, Royalties, and Monetizing Music in Nigeria,” shedding light on the commercial aspects of music law and the value of IP for creatives. The conference also featured interactive sessions, Q&A discussions, and networking opportunities that left participants both inspired and intellectually enriched.

According to Makanjuola Haddy, he stated that ” This historic event marks a major milestone for the Intellectual Property Law Society, LASU. It reaffirms the Society’s commitment to student-led innovation, legal enlightenment, and capacity building in a fast-changing world where intellectual property has become more critical than ever.”
