PSYCHNOVATION OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES ON LASU OJO CAMPUS

Psychnovation, a new student-led initiative, officially launched on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Lagos State University. Themed “From Ideas to Impact: Youth Innovation and the Future of Learning”, the event brought together young minds ready to reshape the future through innovation, self-awareness, and collaboration.

The founder of Psychnovation, Suad Muhammed, shared the inspiration behind the initiative. According to her, “We built Psychnovation because we saw a gap. Students needed a platform where they could channel their knowledge and skills into something purposeful.” She revealed that the journey started way back in 100 level with her co-founder, Mariam Sulaiman.

The first speaker, Ridwan Gboyega Abdul-Kareem, delivered a speech on overcoming isolation and building a new world through tech. Sharing his personal story, he reminded the audience that “We live with problems every day, and we don’t need a license to bring solutions to life.” He stressed the importance of research and intentional decision-making, wrapping up with the quote: “Dreams of yesterday are the reality of today.”

Next came the first panel session, themed “Shaping Our Niche Through Self-Awareness.”

It featured Aderonmu Zainab — a linguist, communicator, mentor, and CEO of Hijabi Compere. She spoke on how mentorship and embracing challenges helped her discover her niche. “We’re all a work in progress,” she said, closing with a memorable quote: “Move, and you will find your purpose.”

Co-founder Mariam Sulaiman also spoke about the early days of Psychnovation. She explained that it began as a virtual conversation between herself and Suad, which gradually evolved into a structured platform offering internships, mentorship, and student engagement. She encouraged students to rise, thrive, and never let anything hold them back.

The second panel session focused on the theme “Think, Build, and Solve.”

It featured Mr. Toluwalase Samson Adekoya, a clinical psychologist, researcher, and lecturer in the Department of Psychology. He touched on youth mental health, the importance of localizing communication, doing research, and forming partnerships with tech startups. “No one can do it alone,” he said. “Team up and make success.”

Another panellist echoed the need for collaboration and research, urging young people to make data-driven decisions and seek relevant information that can drive real solutions.

The event ended with an announcement from the founders. They revealed an upcoming collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, and also announced that applications are now open for students interested in joining the Psychnovation community.
