OPAY SIGNS ₦60M MOU WITH LASU TO SPONSOR 20 STUDENTS OVER 10 YEARS

Nigeria’s leading fintech company, Opay Digital Services Limited, has entered into a strategic partnership with Lagos State University (LASU) through a ₦60 million scholarship programme aimed at sponsoring twenty (20) students over a period of ten (10) years.

The partnership, established under the auspices of the LASU Centre for the Actualisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (LASU-SDG) in collaboration with the Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA), was officially sealed on Monday, 13th October 2025, at the First Floor, Senate Chamber, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

During the official signing ceremony, Opay reaffirmed its long-term commitment to youth empowerment by formalizing the sponsorship through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the university.

Visibly impressed by the initiative, the Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, expressed profound gratitude to the Opay team for their impactful contribution. She noted that the sponsorship was a welcome development and commended Opay for supporting students facing financial challenges.

The Director of LASU-SDG, Professor Tayo Ajayi, revealed that the partnership was made possible through the university’s dedication to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On her part, Elizabeth Wang, Chief Executive Officer of Opay Digital Services Limited, expressed her excitement over the collaboration with LASU. She stated that the partnership reflects Opay’s long-term commitment to promoting and supporting Nigerian youths. While reaffirming Opay’s ambition to remain a leading fintech brand, she emphasized the company’s dedication to contributing meaningfully to youth development in Nigeria.

Wang further explained that Opay is committed to supporting twenty (20) students annually over the next ten (10) years, offering not only financial aid but also career development opportunities such as internships and employment placements.

The MoU was officially signed by Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University; Elizabeth Wang, CEO of Opay Digital Services Limited; and Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu, University Registrar.

Other members of the university management present at the ceremony included, Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tayo Ajayi, Director, LASU-SDG, Professor Rafiu O. Okuneye, Director, LASUDA, and Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs.
