As part of its ongoing Jihad Week activities, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State University Chapter (MSSN LASU), held its formal opening ceremony on Sunday 13th, July 2025 at Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, Lagos State University, Ojo Campus.
The event themed “The Pulse” commenced with a heartfelt recitation from the Holy Quran, setting a spiritually enriching atmosphere centered on faith and discipline. In attendance, were Invited guest speakers, lecturers, Islamic scholars, past Amirs and Amiras as well as students, all gathered to reflect on their individual and collective activities.
Professor Tijani, a lecturer from the Faculty of Management Sciences ( FMS ) delivered the formal address. He stated that the theme is more than a title, it is a call to reflect and turn to Allah.
Shaykh Abdul-Salam Abdul-Raheem, a former Amir of MSSN LASU from 1992 to 1995 delivered the event’s lecture. He shared a story centered on the heart, reality, and the ways in which digital world distorts many people’s perception of reality
“it is time to wake up, examine your spiritual life and ask yourself – have I awakened from the digital world? Let today mark the beginning of rekindling your spiritual awareness”, he assert.
He highlighted several ways a believer can guard and control the heart, concluding his lecture with a powerful wake up call “Choose conscious consumption”
The chief imam, Professor Amid Sanni who was duly represented by Dr. Salman Yunus – an Amir of MSSN from 1998 to 1999, advised Muslim brothers and sisters never to let their faith in Allah waver, regardless of where they find themselves.
Amir Fatihu Salis, launched the association’s magazine which was only available in soft copy, “The hard copy couldn’t be achieved due to financial constraint but we promised to make it available in both soft and hard copy” said the Amir of MSSN-LASU.
Amir Fatihu called on dignitaries and students to support the launch of the magazine and contribute towards the dawah of Allah. A total sum of One million naira was raised to support the printing of the magazine
Cash prizes were presented to the three winners of the Professor Abdul-karim Paramole Essay Competition by Mubarak Paramole.
The winner, Abdulrasaq Anifowose Olamilekan from the department of Common and Civil law, Faculty of Law with a score of 98.8%, earning him a cash prize of 65000 naira
The First runner up, Aluga Hassan from the department of medicine and surgery scored 98%, earned a cash prize of 30,000 and the second runner up, Ajitokewu Taiwo Muhaimin from the department of Biology education received a cash prize of 20,000.
The MSSN LASU Amir, Aminu Al-Ameen extended his heartfelt appreciation to the guests, the speakers, the attendees and the entire MSSN executives for their dedication, support and unwavering faith in his leadership
In his closing remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Ustaz Jamiu Muhammad, expressed gratitude to the Amir and Amirah for their commitment and immense contributions to the success of Jihad week, 2025.
