LASUSU CLAMOURS FOR JUSTICE FOLLOWING DEATH OF 300 LEVEL STUDENT

The Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) has made a passionate appeal to the Lagos State Government, Lagos State Police Command, and relevant authorities for justice to be served following the death of a 300-level student, identified as Azeezat, in the Igando area of Lagos on Saturday, April 11.

The tragic incident, which has led to commotion, tears, and outcry in the campus community, has seen the Students’ Union involved in a serious, heated exchange with the Igando and Idimu Police Divisions in a bid to secure justice. With several demonstrations of Aluta and struggle, LASUSU, in conjunction with several LASUites has continued to amplify the incident on social media platforms to attract the attention of relevant authorities, with the Lagos State Police Command responding to the demands for justice.

In a recent interview with AfricaNews24, the Public Relations Officer of the Students’ Union, Comr. Akano Abdulmalik, popularly known as 5star, provided a situation report, recounting the tragic incident that claimed the life of a LASU student. He explained that the union swung into action, arriving at the Igando Police Station to determine the next course of action to be taken against the culprit; however, they were deceived.

“On getting to Igando Police Station, we asked the policemen to allow us to see the culprit and decide the next line of action. However, they lied to us that the case had been transferred to Idimu Police Station.”

5star further disclosed how members of the Students’ Union also visited the Idimu Police Station, only to discover that the Igando Police had deceived them and had not reported any case.

“Around 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, we went to Idimu Police Station to examine the situation. However, we were informed that no case had been reported, which made us return to Igando Police Station.”

He also maintained that the sustained clamour on social media led to the amplification of the case, attracting the attention of relevant authorities.

“If not for the clamour on social media, with videos to back it up, and calls to the Lagos State Government and relevant authorities, we wouldn’t have known that the case was at Idimu Police Station.”

He added that only five representatives were granted access to the police station, asserting that the perpetrator of the tragic incident has not been seen.

“Up until this moment, only five representatives have been granted entry into the station to get updates on the situation. As of now, the driver who perpetrated the act has not been seen, and there has been no assurance that the deceased student will get justice.”

Bemoaning further, he highlighted previous incidents, noting how Horlas, a graduate of LASU, was brutally murdered, yet no justice was served.

“This is not the first time such an incident has occurred with a cover-up. Horlas, a graduate of LASU, was killed and mutilated in cold blood in the PPL area by an alleged pastor, and up until this moment, justice has not been served, and the church has resumed its normal activities,” he stressed.

He further stressed that the only thing the Students’ Union is currently interested in is securing justice.

“We are not hoodlums or touts, but educated advocates. All we need from everyone, including the Lagos State Police Force and the Lagos State Governor, is an end to the killing of our students. We want justice. We demand justice. This case should not be swept under the rug like previous incidents,” he concluded.
