“HOW TO NAVIGATE CAMPUS LIFE AS A FRESHER” – 36TH LASUSU EXECUTIVES-ELECT ADVISE STUDENTS DURING LASU XPERIENCE

On Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, the 36th LASUSU Executives-elect, popularly known as Igbega LASUSU the Greatest, hosted an X Space for newly admitted students of Lagos State University (LASU). The X Space was targeted at giving freshers a guide on how they can navigate through their first year with little to no complications.

The X Space which was held for 1 hr 59 mins 30 secs, had a total of 1,650 live listeners and 1,729 persons in total who tuned in, and was a candid conversation aimed at giving freshers a guide on how they can navigate through their first year with little-to-no complications.

The event themed: LASU Xperience-Freshers’ Guide To A Smooth Campus Experience, was convened and hosted by the 36th LASUSU P.R.O-elect, Comrade Akano Abdulmalik (5Star), with the co-host being DamiTheHybrid. Members of the 36th LASUSU Executives were in attendance including: Comrade Adebayo Peter Akorede (APK), President-elect; Comrade Moyo Abisuga, Vice President-elect (Ojo Campus); Comrade Azeez Wasiu, Vice President-elect (Epe Campus); Comrade Ayotunde, General Secretary-elect; Comrade Adepegba Aderemi (Rimex), Welfare Director-elect (Ojo Campus); and Comrade Salau Ameerat, Welfare Director (Ikeja Campus).

Giving the first speech was the President of the 36th administration, Comrade APK, who stated that it was a privilege for every fresher on the Space to be admitted into the most sought-after state university in the whole of West Africa.

According to him, University, he noted, is “a step, a ground to find your feet in life,” admonishing them not to lose their primary focus—academics—while exploring other opportunities the campus provides.

Speaking about his journey in LASU, he narrated how he walked his way to the top from being “that random student,” to becoming the number one student of the university.

He concluded by urging every fresher to build a strong foundation, as it is upon it that every subsequent endeavour in life will rest.

The second speaker was a popular content creator and viral TikTok sensation, Aanu with the Double A, who began by narrating how he had to spend five (5) years at home upon completing high school—not because he didn’t meet the admission criteria, but because he wanted to prepare himself mentally.

He recounted how he didn’t own a phone upon gaining admission at the age of 21, but later ventured into selling electronic gadgets and eventually found his niche in content creation. He implored everyone to always include the God factor in whatever they pursue in life, as only He can give assent to it.

Rimex, the 36th Welfare Director-elect and third speaker, also shared his personal experience, revealing how he stayed at home for three (3) years upon graduation from high school, only to be offered a course that wasn’t his preferred choice (Philosophy).

He also assured the students about the readiness of the 36th administration in the aspect of welfare, urging them to report any issues ranging from roommate disturbances, landlord intimidation, school marshal brutality among others, to the Union.

The fourth speaker was Michael Okanlawon, co-founder of the Student Cornr app. He highlighted that one of the greatest challenges students face is the inability to access the right information, which is where the Student Cornr app comes in.

He explained that the app has four (4) features: the Academic feature (which summarizes PDFs and organizes mock tests/exams), the Marketplace feature (useful for student entrepreneurs), the Event feature (which provides updates on upcoming social and academic events), and the Housing feature (which helps solve accommodation problems faced by students).

Next was the Vice President-elect, Comrade Abisuga Moyo, who shared how she spent three (3) years at home before gaining admission, during which she learnt makeup artistry and graphic design. She recounted how she had zero interest in politics until she became Head of Class (HOC), then an Honorable member, and is now the 36th LASUSU Vice President.

She further emphasized the importance of “always putting God and academics first, making the right decisions, developing good public relations skills, and maintaining balance in everything.” She concluded by stressing that determination and consistency are the keys to achieving anything in life.

Other subsequent speakers included Comrade Salau Ameerat and Comrade Azeez Wasiu, both of whom emphasized the importance of becoming whatever you aspire to be and embracing being a multipotentialite.
