The LASU Communication Students’ Representative Council (CSRC), has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of Comr. Okorie Stephanie, on Monday, November 17th.
In a now-viral broadcast released by the COSA-SRC, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Akinrinlade Fathia, read: “INDEFINITE SUSPENSION OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER.”
Explaining the reason for the PRO’s indefinite suspension, the SRC attributed it to “gross insubordination and contempt of the house,” emphasizing that the PRO publicly mocked the decision of the CRSC, made on 14th November, 2025.
“This disciplinary action has been necessitated by Comr. Okorie’s act of gross insubordination and contempt of the House, specifically for making a public mockery of the CSRC resolution made on 14th November, 2025,” a part of the broadcast read.
How It Started
On Friday, November 14th, the PRO of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Comr. Okorie Stephanie and other Executives members publicized an anticipatory graphics of the Freshers’ week. The event-packed week, which was set to feature a freshers’ orientation, a pageantry competition, among other lined-up events, began gaining traction among the students populace.
Reacting to the viral graphics in circulation, the CSRC, on Friday, November 14, issued a statement through the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Special Duties, stated that, “Pursuant to Section 12, Sub-section 1(d) of the COSA-LASU Constitution, which empowers the CSRC to “amend, approve, or disapprove any policy of the EXCOS, DRC, and DEC, the Council has deliberated and reached a decision regarding the recently publicized program.”
According to the CSRC, the program detailed in the broadcasted graphics by the Executives has been put on an indefinite hold, including all planning, publicity, and ticketing activities, pending a comprehensive review by the CSRC.
“Effective immediately, the program as detailed in the associated graphics is hereby placed on an indefinite hold. All planning, publicity, and ticketing activities related to this event are to be suspended pending a comprehensive review by the CSRC,” a part of the statement read.
And The PRO?
Following the viral statement issued by the CSRC, on the “indefinite hold” of the program, the PRO of FCMS, seemingly taken aback by the decision of the House, posted a meme, which she captioned with “Everywhere semo.” The post read:
“CRSC: Freshers’ week has been put on hold
Cosa Lasuite:…”
She shared the meme across several groups, which began to set tongues wagging, as to what could be going on between the House and the Executives
Back To The House
While the PRO had realized that her action seemed disrespectful to the House, it appeared a bit late, as it had reached the right quarters, who began working on the case. This immediately led to the viral statement issued by the house on Monday, November 17th, announcing the “immediate and indefinite” suspension of the PRO, accusing her of publicly mocking the decision of the house made on Friday, November 14.
The CSRC also announced that the former Public Relations Officer of the Faculty, and the current Publicity Secretary, Comr. Irekponor Osagie, as the Acting Public Relations Officer.
“To ensure the seamless continuation of the union’s public communications and information dissemination, the CSRC has appointed Comr. Irekponor Osagie, the Publicity Secretary, to assume the roles and responsibilities of the Acting Public Relations Officer for the duration of this suspension.”
Further Reasons And Interpretation Of The Suspension
While speaking with a member of the house who declared anonymity, what forced the hands of the SPC was that the Executives didn’t follow standard procedure which makes it mandatory for every decision to be approved by the house.
However, the Executives went ahead with this decision, including informing students of how much they were to pay for the freshers’ week, and that made the house to put an immediate hold to the event, pending a comprehensive review.
According to our source, the PRO’s meme post indirectly shaded the SPC, positioning them as clowns, and also using the medium to indirectly promote the already-suspended event.
“The issue on ground was that they didn’t send a letter for approval of publicity to the House before commencing it, which was contrary to the laws of the house.The publicity was commenced, including informing the students of how much they are expected to pay, which was contrary to the law of the house.
“According to standard procedures, they should have sent a letter to the House, who would have in turn stated how things should have been done. The “Everywhere Semo post” right after the SRC announced the hold on all freshers’ events indicated that she was indirectly labelling the house as “clowns,’ subtly publicizing the event which was already put on hold by the house.”
All attempts by LASU Conscience to reach out to the speaker, and the PRO were met with absolute silence.
