HULT PRIZE LASU MARKS NEW ERA FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY

Hult Prize LASU, a global organization driving dynamic change at Lagos State University (LASU), marked a historic moment as it was officially launched as a recognized society on the LASU campus on February 12, 2025, at the SL Edu Auditorium, Faculty of Science.

The community-themed event, ‘Unlimited Disruptors,’ showcased innovations and ideas from students aimed at tackling pressing social issues, including food security, water access, energy, and more.

The event featured Mr. Jeariogbe Olaniyi Samsudeen (JerrySam) as the guest speaker and Professor Tayo Ajayi as the keynote speaker.

Professor Ajayi, a professor of linguistics, Portuguese, and translation studies at Lagos State University, Ojo, is a distinguished academia. He previously served as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and is currently the Director of the Centre for Afrobrazilian Studies (LASUCAS) and the Centre for the Actualization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (LASU-SDG).

Other change-makers, including Adenekan Obadare and Olawuyi Gideon, were also present at the event. Notable personalities such as Jeremiah Adeyemi and Omolara Sanni were invited to assess the feasibility and scalability of the teams’ projects.

The Hult Prize, an annual competition focused on solving pressing social issues such as food security, water access, energy, and education, saw nine teams presenting innovative solutions across various sectors. The participating teams were:

Team Meal Mate, Team Konsume, Team WAVES, Team StudentPad, Team Tradeflare, Team SUFJ, Team Clark, Team CANCOLY, and Team Cheda

Following the competition’s rules, three teams emerged as winners. Team Konsume claimed the top spot, with Team Clark as the first runner-up and Team Cheda securing third place.

Team Konsume, which uses AI to provide personalized dietary recommendations based on users’ preferences and needs, impressed the judges and attendees with its transformative approach to food solutions. Team Clark presented a promising business model, while Team Cheda stood out with its innovative concept, enabling individuals to sell their knowledge through e-books and online courses.

The event marked a significant milestone for Hult Prize and signaled the beginning of a new era for entrepreneurship at LASU. With its official recognition as a society on campus, students now have access to more opportunities for mentorship and funding, paving the way for future innovators and change-makers.
